While among the most impoverished and socially excluded populations in Europe, undocumented migrants are systematically denied the core elements which constitute a basic standard of living. Their lack of adequate housing, education, health care and fair working conditions has caused a state of extreme poverty and destitution.

PICUM is a leading expert in Europe on the human rights of undocumented migrants. An important part of PICUM’s task involves monitoring the realities facing undocumented migrants and ensuring that violations of their fundamental human rights, so often hidden and ignored, are extensively reported so the situation can be addressed and improved.

PICUM has made considerable advances in tracing the realities facing undocumented migrants and increasing understanding of their vulnerable position. These publications have helped PICUM bring visibility to the issues facing undocumented migrants and highlighted the need to protect their innate human rights.

In these short essays, PICUM targets policy makers to convince them of the urgent situation facing undocumented migrants in Europe and urges the adoption of an alternative course of action in relation to irregular migration.
