The
Sindicato de Obreros del Campo (SOC) has been fighting for nearly 30 years for
the rights of Spanish day laborers working in agriculture in Andalusia. As a
result of the February 2000 race riots against Moroccan immigrants in El Ejido,
the SOC decided to set up an office in the greenhouse region in Almeria, to
support and organize the workers, who are mainly from Morocco and sub-Saharan
Africa and who are overwhelmingly undocumented.
