Common manifestation on Saturday the 15th June 2002 in Weil am Rhein – Basel

The borders between Switzerland, Germany and France represent for many people impregnable hurdles. It is in a point of focus for politics and the police considering the question of migration and movement across borders. In the last years, the borderline was expanded to a broad border area. This is based on a control system with several steps. Along the borders, controls of the "hinterland" are implemented, videosystems with infrared are built, common patrols and data systems are installed. Some single results of this kind of politics are visible in the border area: a deportation prison directly on the border Basel - Weil am Rhein, the installation of the central information system of Schengen in Strasbourg, a border police station Kehl–Offenburg-Strasbourg, a head office of the federal Border Police in Weil am Rhein. Also every blameless person runs the risk of being suspected by the Office of the protection of the State because of any attribute. Contacts to people of other origin could be already sufficient that the State limits the rights of freedom. Since the 11th of September the armament is again massively pushed ahead and reinforced.

We, people in the North West Switzerland, in Alsace and in Baden, reject the criminalisation of human beings who are fleeing or are migrating. We reject the social, political, cultural and economic isolation here, that leads to more inequality. The movements of the Sans-papiers in France, Germany and Switzerland exposes the precarious situation of rightless people visible. The world-wide social inequality cannot be solved by deportation prisons and police regimes. We oppose police armament in South Baden; we stand against the introduction of the "hinterland" controls in Switzerland and against the planned construction of deportation prisons in Alsace.

We protest against the fact that the victims are turned to committers, that means against the politics of separation which stamps the refugees as criminals from which it is said the citizens of our region have to be defended. Our comprehension of living together is based on regard and respect of human beings and of their dignity. We reject all political solutions that deny the regard of Human Rights.

We want to break off the borders by a "alsatian-badish-swiss" co-operation. Therefore we call on every single person, syndicates, groups and organisations which feel dedicated to Human Rights, to take responsibility and support on Saturday 15th June 2002 at the border Weil am Rhein / Basel the actions and manifestation.
