Multi-Sectoral Workshop on Fighting Against Undocumented Children |
The PICUM project “Fighting Discrimination-Based
Violence Against Undocumented Children”, co-financed by the DAPHNE Programme
of the European Commission, DG Justice Freedom and Security, aims at fighting
discrimination-based violence against undocumented children in Europe, by
developing the capacity of concerned partners to protect undocumented children
from discrimination in gaining access to housing, education and health care.
The project will be carried out from February 2007 to
February 2009 and the partners include: Save the Children (Denmark), Defence
for Children International (the Netherlands), Association Jeunes Errants
(France) and Andalucia Acoge (Spain). The project will focus on
discrimination-based violence against undocumented children in the area of
health care, housing, and education in 9 EU member states: Belgium,
France, Hungary, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the
UK.
Within
the framework of the project, two multi-sectoral workshops with all the relevant
partners are foreseen. The first workshop will be held from the 27 to 29 June
2007 in Brussels. During the same time period (28-29 June 2007) Picum will
organize an international conference on access to health care for undocumented
migrants, presenting the results of another EU project PICUM has done during the
last two years. We thought this could be a valuable opportunity to share the
results of this previous project with our project, particularly considering that
one of the areas we will investigate is access to health care for undocumented
children. This will give us the opportunity of sharing with other organizations,
information on the situation of access to health care for undocumented children
within the general context of access for undocumented migrants.
An
initial meeting will be held on Wednesday, 27 June, with only the partners of
the Daphne project. On Thursday, 28 June, partners will attend the
whole day conference, Access to Health Care for Undocumented Migrants, which
will continue on the Friday morning. Finally,
in the afternoon of the 29th a joint meeting of the partners of both
the Daphne and the Health Care projects will take place.
Participants:
Participants of the multi-sectoral workshop will be the four partners of the Daphne project “Fighting Discrimination-Based Violence Against Undocumented Children”. Six experts from the countries involved in the project, but not covered by the partnerships (Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland and the UK) will be invited to participate on 28 - 29 June in order to share information and experiences, and to enlarge and strengthen the network of actors involved in the protection of undocumented children rights.
